In 500 years

I found this project interesting in many ways.

First of all, I had the chance to challenge my mind and my way of thinking one more time, trying to find different solutions to make a futuristic scenario possible in terms of balance between what could be reality and pure science fiction.

I went through my knowledge about evolution and history, and had a closer look at what I know on what’s happening in modern time, to image future times.

Basically we were asked to play a game where we were the writers of a novel about a “new” kind of human society.

But to write a novel you must be conscious of what you are writing about and the first step would be researching and becoming nearly an expert about the chosen topic.

Just like any design project, we knew the goal to achieve, and went through the “problems”, finding solutions to make the project work.

So, researching was a big part of the project, and, as I was saying before, I’ve got the chance to gain more knowledge, which is always good, specially for a designer!

Not just general knowledge but even technical because I gave my self one more rule: learning something more about graphics and presentations made with Illustrator and PhotoShop, and I made my presentation solely with copyright-free material found on the net in tutorials and freebies.

It was also good to see and listen to other ideas from my colleagues, mostly because I find interesting to have a closer look at the way people think and their methods to solve problems.

In conclusion, I can’t forget to mention that the most challenging part of this exercise was the timing.

Having just 10 minutes to talk about a project this complicated, where you are supposed to pay attention on your words to make your audience understand where you are coming from and where you are going. Not easy!

I can’t say I learned how to do it, but I can say I made my first steps.

Doing my presentation I’ve chosen those things I had to talk about to give my point and left the little details for a potential following questioning.

The visual part was synthetic and clean, to give a hint to the audience with an image and a key word and to support my words in the explanation of the idea.

So, considering all the above, I can say I enjoyed the project and learned quite a few thing useful for future presentations too.

A short stopmotion movie made during the summer school “Animatti 2009” at Uni in Alghero. This animation was made with pixilation and clay-motion techniques. Edited with After Effects, Photoshop and plenty of  patience!

Steel Jeeg has been in my mind since I was a young boy; now from a 2D Japanese cartoon made by the brilliant minds of Go Nagai and Tatsuya Yasuda, it took the third dimension on my Mac thanks to Autodesk Maya.
